Just Beachy: Cabo San Lucas

The Best Sandy Spots to Visit in Cabo San Lucas

There’s a reason why A-list celebrities frequent Cabo San Lucas. (This is the spot where Maroon 5’s Adam Levine wed Victoria’s Secret model Brihati Prinsloo in 2016.) A quick trip from most cities in the United States, Cabo, which is located at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, is known for its spectacular arcing stone cliffs, water sports galore, and yes, amazing nightlife. If you’re yearning to jump into a conga line, you’ll have no problem finding one here.

But there’s one other thing Cabo is best known for: its truly amazing beaches. Here are a few unique spots to visit:

Situated amongst the craggy rocks of the Land’s End peninsula, Playa del Amor, a.k.a. Lover’s Beach, a perfect crescent of super-soft sand, is surrounded by rocky outcrops and includes spectacular views of Al Arco, a distinctive rock formation at the southern tip of Cabo. Needless to say, this is a top choice for a romantic day trip. You’ll need to take a water taxi to get there because of its secluded location. Since there are no stores or restaurants here, pack a picnic, flip-flops, swimwear and anything else you might need for the afternoon.

If it’s water sports you’re after, head to Medano Beach, one of the area’s most popular sandy spots. You’ll find an array of options to try, ranging from kayaking to paddleboarding to jet-skiing. After you’ve put in a full day in the ocean, you can kick back in a beach chair and order from a variety of nearby restaurants. (Yes, they’ll serve you right in your seat!)

You’ll know you’re at Santa Maria Beach by its pink-colored sand. Part of a marine sanctuary, this horseshoe-shaped beach is an ideal spot for swimming and snorkeling. The locals recommend bringing some tortillas with you to hand-feed the fish. Another thing to tote along: your camera. You’ll want to snap some Instagram photos, too. As with Lover’s Beach, you’ll need to bring your own snacks and beverages, since there are only a few vendors.
